Author and illustrator Juana Martinez-Neal joins me on the podcast this week to discuss her latest picture book, Alma And How She Got Her Name. Juana is also the illustrator of La Madre Goose and La Princesa and the Pea, for which she won the 2018 Pura Belpré Medal Award for Illustration. We chatted about the backstory of Alma, Juana’s journey as an illustrator, and the ways this book can start important conversations in homes and classrooms.
